Here’s the scoop on the new Peruvian motorcycle regulation:
A recent Decreto Supremo (official government resolution) – enacted around mid‑April 2025 – now requires motorcyclists in Lima and Callao to wear a high‑visibility (orange) vest featuring their license plate number printed on it.
The goal, authorities say, is better identification to prevent crimes by “motochoros” (motorcycle thieves). But many riders—especially in Lima—argue it’s a stigmatizing, unconstitutional measure that violates privacy and unfairly targets lawful citizens.
Hundreds recently protested in Lima on May 31, 2025, rejecting the rule as “discriminatory” and “unfair”
